Great Expectations
I think Charles Dickens came up with a "novel" idea when he wrote his novel with the name "Great Expectations." What are your expectations for the new year. Do you really expect something great to happen, or will you just be surprised if anythings does?
I have noticed with some people, when they start out by saying, "I'm going to tell you the truth," you can expect that to be an unsaid statement, that they evidently don't always tell the truth. So they must begin by explaining that this time they will tell you the truth.
Now that I've explained that, let me say, "I'm going to tell you the truth!" Some people don't expect to accomplish much this year. Since they have no expectation, they will do nothing toward attaining a result from the expectation they should have had. If that sounds like a dog chasing his tail, it may be an accurate portrayal of the lives many people lead.
Ok, let's dream up something to accomplish this year in our Christian walk. What would you like to do this year? When the 365 days of 2021 have elapsed, what will you be able to say you accomplished for the Lord. Don't know yet? Don't put it off. Soon the year will be over, then you can start over again with great expectations!
